Huahua took charge of the chick as soon as owner Liu Bangyang's daughter brought it home.

She regards the chick as her baby and stands guard to make sure it comes to no harm, reports the Chongqing Morning News.

And, whenever the chick strays too far, Huahua picks it up gently in her mouth and puts it back in its cot.

Liu, from Guiyang city, Guizhou province, said: "We'll try our best to raise the little chicken, if that's what Huahua wants." from Ananova...

Pelicans Crash Into Pavement, Mistaking It For Water

  #

PHOENIX -- The heat-induced shimmer of Arizona's pavement is fooling the brown pelican population.

State officials report more than 30 of the endangered birds have crashed into paved surfaces that they've mistaken for lakes and creeks.

The state's Department of Game and Fish says the injured birds have been found from Yuma to Phoenix over the past two weeks. The pelicans are being treated for dehydration and malnutrition.

Experts believe the birds are heading to Arizona to look for fish because of a food shortage along the West Coast. more from WDIV Channel 4...

Grit Harmful to Birds

  #

After a recent visit to the vet, we were told not to feed our bird, Captain, grit. Our vet informed us that it is not neccessary for their digestive systems and that it may be a health risk. The grit may scratch the lining of the bird's digestive system and cause infection. A better addition to your bird's diet is more "people food." Red meats and vegetables offer nutrients essential to a bird's diet that they cannot get from seeds alone.

Girl Scouts Rescue Fifth-Floor Birds

  #

The fifth floor of the Fisher Building in downtown Detroit was the spot that Mom and Dad Peregrine Falcon chose to house their nest.

Unfortunately, the spot was a little too unsafe. The fifth floor houses the offices of the Girl Scouts, and some good samartins brought the 18 day old chicks to saefty. The little ones will be tagged and then put back in their nest, moved to a safer place in the fifth floor.

Pepegrine falcons were once endanged and unheard of in the Detroit area.
